News: there will not be much more news as the season is finished. It will only be about Presentation evening, awaiting date, and AGM. Thanks for all those who have read this webpage and hope you enjoyed it!! Please leave a comment if you did or did not. October 8th -10th: Green Maintenance: Very lucky with the weather as Tommy T managed to Tine the green, in both directions, on Sunday 8th. This was not easy and he is to be congratulated on doing this task. Tuesday morning the green was scarified and top soil applied along with some seeds and fortunately the rain came later that day to assist in washing them in. Hopefully this will help to keep our green in good running condition as previous years. Saturday 30th September: Open Pairs Tournament: Another successful Tournament today especially for the visitors as they walked away with the title and runner up. Saturday 23rd September: Open Pairs Tournament: Sponsor Greenside Garden Centre, Newhouse: Another successful tournament won by a pairing from Motherwell BC and Beltane BC who beat J & T Thompson from Holytown BC in the final. Holytown were privileged to welcome 10 players from Shetland, who stated they had a great time and hope to return next year. Monday 11th September Handicap : Gordon Blackwood(21 off -2) beat Sandy Jenkins Snr., (9 off -1), in another hard fought game. Sunday 10th September: Senior Championship: Sandy Jenkins Snr., (21), beat Tom Sloan, (15), in another hard fought game. Saturday 9th September: Championship: Brian Gaffney (21) beat Kenny Bell (9) in hard fought game. Brian's first in three attempts, Kenny still waiting in three attempts. Presidents: Gordon Blackwood (21) beat Sandy Jenkins Snr. (17) in another hard fought game. Week beginning 28th August. The competitions are near the end with semi-finals being played all week to make ready for Finals weekend of the 9/10 September. In the Championship: Brian Gaffney plays Tom Sloan on Wednesday, Kenny Bell awaits his opponent. Presidents: Sandy Jenkins Snr. plays Tom Sloan and Kenny Bells plays Gordon Blackwood on Tuesday 29th. Handicap: Gordon Blackwood plays Brian Gaffney on Friday 1st September and Frank McNally plays Sandy Jenkins Snr. to be decided. Senior Championship: Sandy Jenkins Snr. awaits an opponent while Tom Sloan beat Anne Baillie to reach the final. They are all competing for those coveted final places, there are no easy games with everyone having a good chance to win through. The named players above have faced those twin impostors of victory and defeat in finals before. Wednesday 23rd August, The final game in Lanarkshire league, against Law B.C., was cancelled last Friday due to wet green. The teams below Holytown in league all played last Friday and Holytown knew they needed 2 points to make sure they stayed in Division 9 . In hard fought games Holytown made sure of staying with the team skipped by Sandy Jenkins Snr finished first with a victory. This was followed soon after with the team skipped by Brian Gaffney also winning and Sandy Jnr just losing out by 2 shots. Well done to everyone on the night with great fighting spirit. Thursday 17th August, The Invitation Jim Cameron Senior Triples, sponsored by the Paterson Family from Holytown was very well supported by various clubs from Lanarkshire: Airdrie, Burnhead, Caldercraig, Clarkston, Motherwell and Overton & Waterloo. With some very good bowling and fun from all players, the eventual winners in a very close final game were Holytown's Tom Kain, Tommy Thompson and Sandy Jenkins, Runners Up were Caldercraig team skipped by John Campbell. Thanks to all who made this a great day. 12/08/2017 Friendship Day; Holytown along with invited bowlers from various clubs held an impromptu day with lunch, bowls and dinner. This was another fantastic day with everyone involved enjoying the company and, don't forget, the bowls. The winner was the pairing of the generations with young Amy Jenkins and Granddad Sandy winning, by shots, in a very close contested count-back from Tom & Jean from Airdrie B.C. Thanks to Mary Kain for organising this and also those who assisted on the day, it is much appreciated. 11/08/2017 Lanarkshire League; Not a good night for Holytown at Low Waters as they only managed two points. At start of play Holytown were 5 points in front of Low waters at the bottom of the league and four points would have secured there place in Division 9. Next week is last game, at home, against Law and need to secure four points for safety. 10/08/2017 Wishaw Senior League Pairs Competition: two pairs were eligible from Holytown which included the holders Sandy Jenkins and Tommy Thompson, the other pair were Tom Kain and Tom Ross. Tom and Tom just missed out on qualification. Sandy and Tommy got to the final but just missed out losing to Dalzell. Well done for doing well on their aspirations for retaining the trophy. 5/08/2017 2 Adult Junior Competition: it was a truly fantastic day in which all of the juniors involved had a great time. Well done to the runners up from Springwells and congratulations to the winning team, lead by our very own Amy Jenkins. Click on "JUNIOR SECTION" tab for photos of the day. 4/08/2017 Lanarkshire League; At Coalburn, on a good green, all three teams played very well, with the rinks of Sandy Jenkins Snr and Brian Gaffney winning and Sandy Jenkin's rink just losing out on the last end. Four points away from home is a good result and Holytown now have 13 points. 30/07/2017 Lanarkshire Top Ten: Holytown went to Newmains BC and came away without a single win in the four games of singles, pairs, triple and rinks. Newmains were always in command and played there on green very well. 27/07/2017 Wishaw Senior League Singles Competition. Holytown's Tom Sloan played Burnhead's George McCrae and lost 16-21. George played the better bowls and made some excellent turnovers and draws in a fully deserved win. 26/07/2017 Burgh Top Ten: Holytown played Wrangholm Hall and lost 2-6. The only winner was the singles at 21-17, the Pairs, Triples and Rinks all tried there best but it was not our night. 24/07/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles: Tom Sloan played today and lost narrowly 17 - 21. He led at the start 11-6, it then went level and shot for shot till 17 each, but he never got another shot. 20/07/2017 Wishaw Senior League Singles Competition. Holytown's Tom Sloan played Peter Jones from Houldsworth today in a hard fought game. Peter played the better game and after 16 bends was up 10 -17. Tom managed to win the next end and changed the game by using the long mat and the hand he had been playing. His consistency improved and won 21-17. This should be a confidence booster as both he and Peter are competing in the Bowls Scotland Senior Singles starting this Monday. 13/07/2017 Lanarkshire ladies Three bowl Pairs; Rebecca Weir and Jean Thompson lost in the semi final at Larkhall B.C. in a hard fought game. Well done Ladies to get that far. 12/07/2017 Lanarkshire League: Holytown were at home to Eddlewood tonight. This was better performance from all the players with two wins from Sandy Jenkins Snr and Brian Gaffney, and Sandy Jenkins Jnr only lost by two shots. 7/07/2017 Lanarkshire League: Holytown were away to Gartcosh tonight and did not win any of the games and now have 5 points from possible 18. 5/07/2017 Burgh Pairs: Tom Sloan & Brian Gaffney played in the Semi-final against Castlehill tonight. They started of quickly and were up 13-3 after 6 ends. Castlehill came fighting back and Holytown lost 17-19. Wishaw Senior League play offs took place at Houldsworth. The Holytown team of Tom Kain, Tommy Thompson and Sandy Jenkins Snr were involved as one of the 9 section winners and a best runner up playing Round Robin. Unfortunately they missed out on the top 4 places 3/07/2017 Gents Triples for this Saturday 8th has been cancelled due to lack of teams. Apologies for any inconvenience. 1/07/2017 Jackie Weir Trophy was played today, this was a round robin with the scores as 4-3-2-1 on each end. It was very close at the end with only 6 points separating the top three. It was deservedly won by Tom Kain and Kevin Monaghan, R/up only one point behind were Amy Jenkins and Sandy Jenkins Snr. Amy is one of our juniors and played very well. 30/06/2017 Lanarkshire League; A disappointing result and performance at Coatdyke, where the home team got 5 points, with Sandy Jenkins Snr. drawing and the other two teams being well beaten. 29/06/2017 Lanarkshire B.A. Top Six: Holytown were away to the holders Caldercraig. The singles lost, which required the pairs and triples to win. Both games were very close and the triples went into the last end 12 each and the pairs were 2 up with an end to play. The Holytown triples lay shot all through the last end till the final bowl of the game where Caldercraig secured the win and go through to the next round. Lanarkshire ladies Three bowl Pairs; Rebecca Weir and Jean Thompson won in the quarter finals at Eddlewood. They now go to Larkhall on the 13th. 28/06/2017 Burgh Championships; Pairs of Tom Sloan & Brian Gaffney played tonight against Motherwell at Wrangholm. This was a very good game with it going to last end decider on 18 each. Holytown led for most of the game and managed to win on the last end. Holytown hosted Junior singles, Dalzell won, and pairs from Wrangholm also won. Senior League; Triples final game at Houldsworth this afternoon where a win was required to win the Section. They were leading 11-4 after 9 ends and looking good with 4 ends to play, after 11 ends the score was Houldsworth 13 - 11 Holytown. Holytown then got a one on 12th end and two on last end for 14-13 win and secure the points to win the section. 24/06/2017 Gents Nomination Pairs; Another excellent day with good bowls and some lucky bowls as well, especially from the politician. The eventual winners in the Round Robin League were Tommy Thompson/ Sandy Jenkins R/Up were Tom Ross/ Frank McNally. 23/06/2017 Lanarkshire League; The opening game of the league was against Carluke. All the teams played well and we had two winning teams with Sandy Jenkins Snr. & Jnr. winning and Brian Gaffney narrowly losing by by 3 shots. 22/06/2017 Ian Monachan: Ian sadly passed away today after a long illness. Ian was a member for many years, who when fit enjoyed his bowling and the fun associated with it, but due to work and subsequently his illness he let it lapse . Lanarkshire B.A. Top Six: A home game against West End Coatbridge with all the teams winning. The singles had a comfortable victory but the Pairs and Triples went to the last end in very close games. 21/06/2017 Burgh Championships; The Pairs of Tom Sloan & Brian Gaffney won their first game at Newarthill against Colville Park 27-11. Holytown hosted Singles, won by Uddingston and Triples won by Bellshill & Mossend. 18/06/2017 Bowls Scotland Junior Pairs; Zoe Marcell and Ross McLaughlin represented Holytown today at Newmains and played extremely well and were the runners up. Well done to them. Gents Pairs; Another excellent day with the eventual winners Tommy Thompson/ Tom Sloan beating Sandy Jenkins/ John Lennox in a hard fought match with some very good bowling from all the players. 17/06/2017 Invitation Ladies Pairs; An excellent day with teams from various parts of Lanarkshire participating. The event was won in a close final by Orbiston, (Nora Lennon), against Caldercraig. 15/06/2017 Lanarkshire ladies Three bowl Pairs; Rebecca Weir and Jean Thompson, playing at Hamilton Caledonia, won 19-11 tonight.They are through to the quarter finals at Eddlewood. 14/06/2017 Burgh Championships; not a good night with Singles, Triples, Rinks and Senior Singles exiting the competition. Sandy Jenkins jnr in the Singles was narrowly beaten 21-20 and was the highlight of the night. Senior League; The Seniors played at Colville Park this afternoon and lost their unbeaten record by going down 11-5. 11/06/2017 Bowls Scotland U17 Singles: Holytown hosted this qualifying games, 11 clubs represented in two sections. The qualifiers for Ayr, Northfield are Orbiston and Blantyre. 10/06/2017 Bowls Scotland Ladies Singles: Anne Baillie, in Seniors, and Rebecca Weir, in U25, played today at Orbiston B.C., unfortunately both lost their opening game. The Nominated pairs competition was another excellent day with everyone enjoying themselves in the fellowship that is bowls. It was won by Nan & Sandy Jenkins, who beat John Lennox and Tom Sloan in the final. 9/06/2017 Lanarkshire W.B.A. Triples: Jean Thompson, Anne Baillie and Nan Jenkins won this afternoon at Garrowhill B.C.. This triples are hard to beat and consistently play very well. 8/06/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Gents Singles District 20 Final: Tom Sloan won this afternoon in the heavy rain, he now plays in the finals at Ayr in July. The heavy rain made the conditions difficult with Tom coping better in the conditions. 7/06/2017 Bowls Scotland Ladies Junior Singles; Rebecca Weir won tonight at Bellshill & Mossend. Rebecca now plays on Saturday at Orbiston. Great result. Senior League; The Seniors played Shots this afternoon, who are also unbeaten in this section, but both came away with a point, 11-11, in hard fought game. 5/06/2017 Bowls Scotland Gents District 20 Semi Finals; These were held on the green this evening, Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours. 4/06/2017 Bowls Scotland ladies triples; The triples lost in the last end at Springwells B.C. The tournament today was another excellent day for bowling, both in weather and comapny. Todays winners were Gordon Blackwood and Tommy Thompson, R/Up were Sand Jenkins and Zoe Marcell. 3/06/2017 Bowls Scotland ladies Triples; Nan Jenkins, Anne Baillie and Jean Thompson won through to play tomorrow at Springwells B.C. 1/06/2017 Lanarkshire ladies Three bowl Pairs; Rebecca Weir and Jean Thompson won 19-17 tonight...it was a tough game but they got there in the end. 31/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles competitions: T. Sloan, playing at Gartsherrie, beat Robert Armstrong from Gartcosh 21-18 in a very tough game. Tom led 15-8 at one stage and 8 ends later he was down 15-17. This was a game of 2 mats, with Tom using standard mat and Robert using the long mat to great effect. He now plays in the District Final on Thursday afternoon of the 7th June at Orbiston B.C. against J. Cochrane of Gartsherrie B.C. Holytown hosted the other semi final of Senior Singles and Senior Fours, where Caldercraig defeated Airdrie. Burgh League; No points from the last game at Dalzell, who showed why they are top of the league. 30/05/2017 Senior League; The Seniors won at Carluke, 17-11, this afternoon to keep that unbeaten run, Keep that going. 25/05/2017 Lanarkshire B.A.: the fours of J. Lennox, A Gillon, T. Thompson, T Sloan lost at Gartsherrie. Lanarkshire Ladies three Bowl Pairs; better news as Rebecca Weir and Jean Thompson won at Calderbank, Linda Mathews and Mary Kain lost out on a very good game. 24/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles competitions: T. Sloan through after beating Glengowan at Coatbridge, with the next game being the semi-final on Wednesday 31st at Gartsherrie. Burgh League: Away to Overton with only picking up 2 points, once again the teams all tried their best. 23/05/2017 Senior League; The Seniors won at home to Motherwell 18-6, this afternoon to keep that unbeaten run, Keep that going. 21/05/2017 Lanarkshire B.A. Champion of Champions; Gordon Blackwood put on a great performance but narrowly lost 21-17 at Stonehouse B.C. The tournament this weekend was pairs, and as with the competitions this year everyone had fun. The winners, after an extra end, were: Ross. McLaughlin, Tom Sloan; R/Up Tommy & Jean Thompson. 19/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Gents: all of the teams, Singles, Triples and Fours lost tonight, with the singles losing 21-19. 18/05/2017 Lanarkshire B.A.: Mixed fortunes tonight with the fours of J. Lennox, A Gillon, T. Thompson, T Sloan narrowly winning on last end. Unfortunately the Singles lost and Triples lost on the last end from an unfortunate wick for them. 17/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles competitions. Mixed fortunes today at B&M with T. Sloan thru after beating Airdrie with his next game at Coatbridge. Unfortunately A. Jenkins lost to Burnhead B, he tried his best. 16/05/2017 Senior League; The Seniors won at Dalzell this afternoon to give them an unbeaten run, Keep that going Burgh League home to Law. The visitors came and conquered with strong performance and going home with all points. Holytown battled hard but once again the rubs did not go with us. 15/05/2017 Sadie Cameron: Sadly Sadie passed away in Hospital after taking ill, just under 7 weeks since Jim died. 14/05/2017 Lanarkshire B.A. Champion of Champions; Gordon Blackwood won his first game at Eddlewood tonight with an inspired performance against Shotts I.W. 13/05/2017 Open Triples Competition was won by R. McLaughlin, L. Mathews and A Jenkins; R/Up E. Gillon, Z. Marcell, T. Sloan. Once again this tournament was successful where everyone enjoyed the fellowship that is bowling. 12/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Pairs were narrowly beaten by the last bowl in hteir game at Coatdyke against Airdrie Central. 11/05/2017 Lanarkshire B.A pairs lost their game tonight at Whifflet against Victoria Coatbridge. The Triples had a walkover. 10/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Senior Singles competitions. At last good news as Holytown B, (T. Sloan) secured a victory against Orbiston B at Caldercraig. 09/05/2017 Burgh League home to Newmains. This also was not a good result with only getting 2 points, (A. Jenkins team), from 8. Once again the losing games were close, that bit of luck is not happening, hopefully it will change soon 08/05/2017 Burgh League away to Houldsworth. This was not a good result where we lost all 8 points. All of the games were close but just missed out on any wins. 07/05/2017 Bowls Scotland Mixed pairs: Gordon Blackwood and Nan Jenkins lost to Clarkston in this competion 06/05/2017 Jimmy Coyle Trophy was an open pairs event. Everyone enjoyed their bowling and it was won by Ross McLaughlin/ Brian Gaffney, R/Up Ann Porter/ Nan Jenkins. 03/05/2017 Burgh League: Holytown opened the league with an away game at Wishaw South. It was not a good result with us only getting 2 points from a possible 8. 29/04/2017 Saturday was the first in-house game of the season and it was an open pairs. Everyone enjoyed their bowling and it was won by S. Jenkins/ T. Sloan, R/Up T. Thomson/ G Blackwood. 22/04/2017 The Opening this year had that fun feeling where everyone enjoyed the bowls. Councillor Coyle threw the opening jack in Honour of his service to the Club and the Community, which he had served for 29 years. On his first ever through of a bowl he nearly had the first toucher on the green! The First touchers were by Tom Sloan and Zoe Marcell. 13/04/2017 Prior to Opening Day on 22nd April, a members meeting will be held at 1pm for an update on the new committee positions. 24/03/2017: Jim Cameron It is with great sadness that Jim passed away today. He was Secretary since 1996 and worked tirelessly for Holytown B.C. He was also Treasurer and Match Secretary. 11/12/2016: AGM This has been earlier than expected. The Meeting elected Rebecca Weir as President and Andy Gillan as Vice President. The meeting discussed many items and all came away with positive attitude for the 2017 season. The opening will be on Saturday 22nd April. It was decided that there will be only one opening in 2017. |
