December: The year has ended with the Club still surviving and will do so next year. November: AGMon Sunday 25th at 2 p.m. in clubhouse. Balance sheet was discussed and accepted. Memberships views were discussed at length and the meeting agreed FOR ONE YEAR ONLY at £50. There will be a drive to attract new members October: 1st (Monday) & 2nd (Tuesday). Green Maintenance started with coring and verticut on the green, see slideshow above. This was hard work after the coring as all the cores had to be lifted and took 12 barrow loads to clear most of them. Filling them in and reseeding next on agenda. Saturday 29th September : Closing Day Another excellent day of fun and Bowling by all who attended and played. The buffet and Presentation of prizes made it even more special. Big Thanks To All who made this day. Another season gone. green maintenance starts on Monday and hopefully will improve some of the issues with thin grass and drainage. Saturday 22nd September Patterson Builders Invitation Mixed Pairs: This was a great day with 13 Shetlanders Visiting along with Members and visitors from across Lanarkshire. The Semi Finals had Holytown's Sandy & Nan Jenkins playing Holytown's Gordon Blackwood and Airdrie Central's Davis Blades, the other semi final was an all Shetland contest between Caroline Smith & Alan Smith playing Anne Robertson & Scott Hurst. The worthy winners were Gordon Blackwood and Airdrie Central's Davis Blades who were undefeated. Sunday 9th September: Handicap; Winner Nan Jenkins, R/Up Brian Gaffney. Senior Championship: Winner Sandy Jenkins R/Up Kenny Bell. Saturday 8th September Club Finals weekend, 2pm start. Gents Championship; Winner Brian Gaffney, R/Up Kenny Bell. Presidents: Winner Sandy Jenkins, R/Up Tom Sloan. According to President Andy Gillon "the best game he has seen for a long long time." Saturday 1st September The Club competition was won by a Junior/ Adult pairing of Meghan Hands and Tom Ross and same with the R/up of Amy and Nan Jenkins. It is great that our Juniors get this opportunity to play and shows how much it improves their game. Meghan is a first year bowler and has improved a lot. Amy improves year on year. August Friday 30th Senior Championship: Nan Jenkins versus Sandy Jenkins; Marker Joe Hands Thursday 30th August Handicap: Brian Gaffney beat Sandy Jenkins. Nan Jenkins beat Stuart Cochrane . Wednesday 29th August. Senior Championship: Kenny Bell beat Tom Sloan. Tuesday 28th August Gents Championship Brian Gaffney beat Tommy Thompson. Presidents: Tom Sloan beat Nan Jenkins, Sandy Jenkins beat Ian Wightman. Saturday 25th August Invitation Mixed Triples sponsored by Greenside Garden Centre, Newhouse. The Three section winners were Ian Wightman, Springwells and Airdrie. This was another good day for bowling, fun and fellowship. Saturday 18th August The Triples competition today was won by Kevin Monaghan, Joe Hands and Frank McNally, R/Up were Amy, Nan and Sandy Jenkins. A very enjoyable club tournament with good bowls and more importantly fun. Friday 17th Lanarkshire League: Final game at Home against Holytown and Coalburn were on 16 points each with Coalburn having better aggregate score. This required Holytown to win two games to avoid the possibility of relegation. With tenacity Holytown won all three games ensuring staying in the division. Well done to all who played throughout the league campaign. Wednesday 15th Seniors League: Final game at home to Overton & Waterloo, at last a victory 17-7. Well Done Sandy Jenkins, Tom Kain and John Lennox. Sunday 12th final day for Gents championship, Presidents and Handicap ties to be completed. All played by the date. Friday 10th Lanarkshire League: Away against Law was an improved performance with 2 winning teams and well needed 4 points. Thursday 9th Sandy Jenkins and Tommy Thompson won Wishaw Seniors League Pairs competition played at Houldsworth BC. Well done to them both as they had previously won it in 2016. Wednesday 8th Seniors League: Holytown lost 13-6 away to Motherwell Miners Welfare. Sunday 5th: Lanarkshire Top Ten against Wrangholm Hall saw a win for the visitors in all of the four disciplines. Friday 3rd Lanarkshire League: Home against Low Waters was not a good night with only one team winning and getting 2 points. Everybody is doing their best and the two losing teams were well down, and fought back, but couldn't just get there. Wednesday 1st Lost in Burgh Top Ten against Overton & Waterloo. Not a good night with all 4 games losing. July Sunday 29th: Lanarkshire Top Ten against Red Deer, was a walkover as they withdrew from the competition. Wednesday 17th Seniors League : The team of John Lennox, Ian Wightman and Tommy Thompson secured a Home win 22-14 against Newmains (1). Wednesday 11th Lanarkshire League No points from the away game at Blantyre, it was close on 2 rinks with Gordon losing by two and Sandy by four. Great fighting spirit by Holytown on all three rinks. Wednesday 10th Seniors League : Away game against Carluke(2), the result was a win for the home team 13-11. Friday 6th Lanarkshire League The 3 teams played well at home against Gartcosh tonight, where Holytown won (4 point) and narrowly lost the other by 2 shots. Everbody is doing their best and it shows in the results. Thursday 5th Wishaw & District Seniors League Singles Competition : Sandy Jenkins lost 13-21 at Carluke in a hard fought game. Wednesday 4th Seniors League : Home game against Shotts (1), the result was a draw 10-10. June: Friday 22nd Lanarkshire League The game away at Carluke, Holytown only managed 1 win giving 2 points. Wednesday 27th June Seniors League : there is no game this week Burgh Championship: Pairs and Fours were beaten. Friday 22nd Lanarkshire League The first game at home against Uddingston BC, seen 2 winning teams and getting 4 points. This is a good start. Thursday 21st Lanarkshire Top 6 Championships. Holytown lost at home to Clarkston BC by 5 shots. The singles lost 13-21, the pairs drew 19-19 and the triples won 20-17. The pairs and triples got off to a bad start and after 6 ends both were down by 9 shots. Well done for the comeback. Wednesday 20th June Seniors League lost 7-19 at home to Castlehill (1). Burgh Championship: Pairs and Fours won, SIngles, Senior Singles and Triples lost, . Holytown hosted 4 games, 2 singles, triples and fours. Saturday 16th Club Triples Game cancelled due to green flooding. Thursday 14th Lanarkshire Top 6 Championships. Holytown won at home to Dunbeth BC with 6 points. Wednesday 13th June Seniors League of Ian Whiteman, Tommy Thompson and Alex Jenkins lost 8-14 at Motherwell MW. Burgh Championship: Senior Singles Tom Ross won at Motherwell, Pairs Tom Sloan / Brian Gaffney won at Orbiston. Saturday 9th Balloted Pairs Another excellent day, which was stopped by the thunderstorms before the final could be played between Section A Sandy & Amy Jenkins, Section B Alex Jenkins and Andy Gillon. Wednesday 6th June Seniors League: On their own green, Sandy Jenkins, Tommy Thompson & Tom Ross drew with Houldsworth (1) in a very tight and entertaining game, played in great spirit, helped by the surface being very playable. Monday 4th June Bowls Scotland District Semi-final Singles. Tom Sloan lost 21-11 over 24 ends at Calderbank. 3rd June Bowls Scotland Ladies Triples Competition. Another victory for the Ladies Triples and they now progress to the semin finals. Well done. Saturday 2nd Bowls Scotland Ladies Triples Ann Baillie, Nan Jenkins & Jean Thompson won today on their home green. They all played very well and once again proven how consistent they are in a tight contest. They return tomorrow and hope they maintain that same high standard of today. The other two games were also of a good standard as expected on a good green. May: Thursday 31st Lanarkshire Championships. Sandy & Alex Jenkins lost 13-16 in a very good game. playing in the District Semi-final at Springwells B.C. Great effort. Wednesday 30th Scottish Senior Singles. Tom Sloan lost to Jim Purves in the District Semi-final at Springwells B.C.. Seniors League: Holytown's, Sandy Jenkins, Tom Kain & John Lennox lost 10-12 at Newarthill B.C. Friday 25th Scottish Championship: Holytown Singles player Tom Sloan won 21-14 against Coatbridge tonight and progresses to the semi-final on Monday 4th June at Calderbank B.C. Thursday 24th Lanarkshire Championships. Holytown Pairs, Sandy & Alex Jenkins won at Caldercraig and Triples, Ian Whiteman, Tommy Thompson and Brian Gaffney lost at Calderbank, Wednesday 23rd Scottish Senior Singles. Pairs Sandy & Alex Jenkins and Triples Gordon Blackwood, Ian Whiteman and Stuart Cochrane all lost tonight Thursday 17th Lanarkshire Championships. Holytown Pairs, Sandy & Alex Jenkins and Triples, Ian Whiteman, Tommy Thompson and Brian Gaffney, both won playing at Chryston and District, well done. Holytown Singles, Gordon Blackwood lost 21-20, great effort with that result. Wednesday 16th Scottish Senior Singles. Sandy Jenkins, at Coatbridge won 21-17, Tom Sloan at Greengairs won 21-13. Both progress to the next game on Wednesday 23rd at 13:30 Tuesday 15th Seniors League at Lanark. The Team of T.Sloan, I Whiteman and T. Thompson lost 10-11 at Lanark. This was tight game with Holytown leading until the last end where they lost a two on a measure. Sunday 13th Champion of Champions; Brian Gaffney won a tight game 21-17 against Lanark at Hamilton Caledonia, Hamilton. It did not look good at the start as the Lanark Champion raced into 10-3 lead. Brian persevered and went ahead 19-13 and lying game the Lanark man played a good bowl to save the game and then went to 19-17 before he closed it out over 2 ends. Brian plays at Quarter next Sunday evening. Friday 11th Scottish knockouts. Good and bad news on the knockouts; the pairs of Sandy(Snr) and Sandy Jenkins, the triples of Stuart Cochrane, Ian Whiteman and Gordon Blackwood all won and play again next Friday, where the singles now start. Unfortunately the fours of Tom Ross, Kevin Monachan, Tommy Thompson and Brian Gaffney lost by one shot; great effort from those four. Thursday 10th Lanarkshire Fours. The team of K. Monachan, S. Cochrane, K. Bell & T. Sloan, playing at Coatdyke lost 21-13 to Coatbridge West End. Next week the Singles, Pairs and Triples all travel to Chryston & District to play there games. Wednesday May 9th: Wishaw Seniors League The team of Tommy Thompson, Tom Kain and Tom Ross played Dalzell(1) and were 13-13 going into the last end but unfortunately lost 13-15. Great try from the three. Saturday (5th) in Jimmy Coyle Trophy. Another very good tournament with the winners Tom Sloan/Nan Jenkins, R/Up Gordon Blackwood/Jean Thompson. Wednesday May 2nd: Wishaw Seniors League This started today with the team of Sandy Jenkins, Tommy Thompson and Ian Whiteman winning 18-11 at Law B.C. on a cold afternoon. Well done. April Club Games Gents Scottish, Lanarkshire and Burgh team selections have been posted in the clubhouse. Please check if you are selected and confirm your availability. Saturday 28th Pairs was won by Nan Jenkins/ Jean Thompson, R/Up were Amy & Sandy(Snr) Jenkins in a very good competition which was enjoyed by everyone, with good humour and sportsmanship. 14th April 2p.m. Opening Day Another great day with the Opening Jack and Bowl being thrown by Jimmy Coyle. The members turnout was great and they enjoyed 8 ends of bowling, followed by buffet and presentation of prizes for 2017. Holytown welcomed three new members and 3 new Juniors. The list is up for the next 2 weekends bowling with Club Triples on Saturday 21st and visit from Shetland BC on the Sunday 22nd. 29th April is Club Open Pairs. 14/01/2018: AGM This has been earlier than expected. The Meeting elected Andy Gillan as President. The meeting discussed many items and all came away with positive attitude for the 2018 season, due to the prudence of the Treasurer. The opening will be on Saturday 14th April, which will include the presentation to last years competition winners. |
